Episode 88

January 29, 2011 12:31 pm

This may be too cute a solution, but we'll roll with it.

 Episode 88

By the way, I've determined the format for the book and have begun to drop the old line-art into it (no, I'm not going to re-draw everything, just the episodes for which I am missing art.)  It will be 12" x 12"; One episode per page; 3 x 3 panels.  At the bottom of the page will be the date of first publication (not that I'm proud of how long it's taking me to do a measly 99 episodes, but it's good for context.)  In case you are wondering, the first four episodes appeared simultaneously on November 13, 2003.

Everything will be re-lettered and re-colored.  I'm shopping for typefaces now.  As you may have noticed, I had to abandon the typeface I used for most of the episodes as it seems to have dropped off the face of the earth.  I've settled on a new one, but it's not ideal.  I toyed with a handwritten typeface, but ironically all the ones I've tried look too mechanical.  I think I need a good sans-serif that's not too impersonal, but not too funky.

Typefaces have occupied a lot of my time recently.

  1. I like that Newtons laws hold in this universe, but sound can apparently travel through a vacuum. :)

  3. Also, the 'waiting out the recession' thing reminds of of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, with the members of the monopolized planet-making industry waiting out a recession in artificial sleep, waiting for the economy to return to a level it will never return to.

  4. Very happy to see no-one had to spend a few decades drifting through the void this time.

Also glad to hear that you're only re-drawing what you need to. Re-colouring will be interesting to see.

Only one thing worries me: with only 11 episodes to go, will that be long enough to cover the remaining two planets? Guess I'll just have to trust that the plan you have been writing to thus far will pan out. Which has been pretty good thus far, I must say.

Really enjoying this last ride to the finish line. Thanks.

  7. That's it!

I've been looking through font archives for that typeface for a couple of years now. I obviously was not even close on the name.

Actually for some reason before I didn't have a full character set, so I had to type out commas and position them like apostrophes. It may have have had some impact on my diction.

  8. Nice work, That Same Guy!

(It'd be a shame to see a change in the look of the comic because of a missing font!)
