Episode 99

August 20, 2011 12:32 pm

The end.

Ok, so: plans for the near future.

I intend to do an illustration blog on this website for the next few months, just to keep some fresh content on here while I work on the printed collection.  I am aiming to have the book out in December.  When I have a firmer idea of a release date, I will begin to take preorders, so watch out for that.

A little further down the road, I'll let everyone in on my next project, which I'm still kicking around at the moment, but which should follow close behind the collection.

I considered thanking all you regular commenters by name, but I don't want to risk leaving anyone out.  Please rest assured that your support has been noticed and very much appreciated.  I have been consistently amazed by the patience and tenacity of you who have continued to check back during this comics frequent hiatuses.  Thank you all.

  12. I'm happy you finished it but I have to say that I'm sad. It's like I just lost two friends.Or better yet, it's like I had these friends and we used to hang out, but we can't anymore, so all I can do is reminisce on what we did in the past.

Thanks Kit. That was a wonderful trip you took us to. I can't wait to take it again a few years from now with the book.

  24. Thanks very much. I've been a reader since the beginning, and I've seen many a webcomic vanish before its time. I really appreciate you hanging in there, and taking whatever time it took to wrap things up. It's been quite a ride!

  25. I started regularly checking back shortly after the comic started, and got worried once or twice when the hiatus' happened, but I'm glad I kept coming back.

  28. After re-reading the comic just now, I took a moment to reflect...

When I started reading this, I was in high school. I went through college, graduated, and have been out for almost two years now and have a budding career. Over those years I lost two computers, which meant losing all of my bookmarks. Multiple times I lost NPWIL, and it took me a couple months, or more, until one day I would be sitting here, thinking, "What was that comic I used to check?" and after a few garbled keyword searches in Google, here I was again.

I short, it was an amazing comic, made better (in my mind) by how stretched out it was. The anticipation of an update, or the surprise of there being one after nearly a year of nothing.

Thank you Kit, for the comic, and thank you Ike for showing it to me so many years ago. I will definitely be getting a print copy of this.

  29. Sir,
I kept coming back because this is one of the most interesting stories I have read and I thank you for it. I'll keep checking in, and if we're all very lucky, you'll find an idea you're content with soon.
    All the best.

  30. I've not commented before, so I wouldn't want you to think I was just getting in on the act simply to get a 'thank you'. But I'd just like to re-iterate the words of those above (particularly Tyler two posts up). This has been a great comic that I've thoroughly enjoyed over the past few years. Can't wait for the book. Well done on completing this and thank you.

  33. I've been reading since... Earth... maybe? A heck of a long time anyway. I've loved this comic since the day I discovered it. Seeing it end is bittersweet, but I like how the story has progressed and this last strip feels like a good close. I'm looking forward to seeing what you post next!

  36. Thank you for completing this work of art. I've been a reader since around Mars, I think, and it's been an incredible journey.

I notice you didn't include a year in your estimate for the book's arrival. ;-)

  37. Hey, like everyone else here, I was sticking it out, waiting. I was even considering making a print version of this for myself. I'm glad you're doing it, instead. Please, put the background colors associated with the individual comics in the print version. That was one of my favorite things about your comic.

And thanks for all your art. It was beautiful.

  38. I'm looking forward to seeing your print version. I discovered this fall of my freshman year in college (Aug 2006) and I have eagerly anticipated each new comic. When you popped back up with a new comic after being gone for nearly a year I was ecstatic and I'm a bit sad to see it finally come to a close. I'll keep an eye out for your new project and I truly appreciate the entertainment you've provided over the years.

    Best of luck!

  39. Wow. I was just on metafilter and going over the last few days of posts as I'd been away and I saw it. I was shocked and excited, because a few months back I was searching for it, but couldn't remember the title. I tried searching for it but robots in space wasn't a helpful tagline. Off and on for a few years I had been checking and then lost the bookmark. I really enjoyed it and was glad to find it again and sad that it is over. Thanks!
